Breeder-finisher

Given that local abattoirs have expressed interest in receiving calves that were born and finished within the same operation, an information night was held in Drummondville in March 2024. The program included presentations on the services available to producers from the fed cattle sales agency as well as the needs of abattoirs and the conditions of purchase they use.

A presentation on the services available to producers by the fed cattle sales agency was also held in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region in April 2023.

The presentation on services offered by the fed cattle sales agency is available on the feeder calf producers’ extranet site.

In March 2024, the PBQ held an information session for feeder calf producers who already finish their calves to the fed cattle stage or are interested in doing so. A panel of breeder-finishers attended the event to discuss their views on the issue. Producers also had the opportunity to attend talks on health and feed as well as a presentation on the Verified Beef Production Plus (VBP+) program.
