What is sustainability?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sustainability is about meeting today\u2019s needs without undermining the capacity of future generations to meet their own.<\/p>\n

To be sustainable, a balance is needed between economic<\/a>, societal<\/a>, and environmental<\/a> concerns.<\/p>\n

Why have a strategy?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Across Quebec, cattle producers face many challenges that call for a clear, considered, and coordinated long-term strategy from the PBQ.<\/p>\n

Our producers are on the front lines of climate change\u2014they are the ones who deal directly with its effects. You don\u2019t need to look any further than the multiple droughts that have occurred in recent years or the frequency of forest fires in certain regions to see that farms need to become as resilient as possible.<\/p>\n

Governments have been quite vocal about their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. Consumers also express concerns that are often based on faulty information or examples drawn from other countries. For the sake of transparency and maintaining public trust, the PBQ must continue demonstrating the concrete actions producers are taking to benefit the environment as well as animal health and welfare.<\/p>\n

Other production sectors are also engaged in sustainability efforts, and major actors in the agri-food industry have followed suit. In this context, the PBQ clearly has every reason to commit to sustainable cattle farming.<\/p>\n
